I’m not the average thrill seeker. Or at least I haven’t been. I’m a guy that liked a bit too much normalcy in my life and sometimes gets a bit agitated when that normalcy didn’t exist.
But this year has been different.
And last weekend’s DirtyBird Mud Run at Snowbird was no exception.
You see – the look on my face above – that’s called VICTORY! Not just victory because I may (or may not – you’ll need to watch the videos below) have overcome an obstacle that I didn’t think I could complete.
No – the victory on my face was that of overcoming a fear of the cold (I mean….FREEZING cold) while being wet. I overcame a fear of heights by jumping off a 35 foot platform. I had overcome a fear of the unknown as the information provided about the event was a bit reserved on the details.
And I overcame a fear of whether I would be ready for this type of race. And maybe even more importantly of whether I would be accepted.
It was all of these fears that I burst through and overcame on this race. And each step I take, each mile I run and every pound I lose takes me a bit further away from that person I once used to be and gets me closer to becoming the person you see in this picture: one that overcomes his fears, who is loving life a bit more every day and is willing to step out and take a risk even when it feels uncomfortable.
So let me ask you: What are you doing to stretch yourself a bit more? What can you sign up for that will push you to overcoming a fear or stepping out of your comfort zone towards growing a bit more as a person.
You might think I’m talking about a distance race or the next Spartan race. Maybe. But maybe you need to sign up to give a presentation at work to overcome your fear of public speaking. Maybe you need to muster up the courage to take a college course to get you closer to your work goal. Maybe you need to find the courage to step up for the next volunteer task to help you be a bit more outgoing.
That’s what I’m talking about. What are you going to do this week towards achieving your own victory. Because its then that you realize that you are no longer limited by your fears and that your future is wide open!
Before I forget – I wanted to share a few videos with you that I compiled from this past weekend of three of the top obstacles from the 2015 DirtyBird at Snowbird. I hope you enjoy them!
Enjoying the promised Slip ‘n Slides:
Aren’t the monkey bars only for kids? Not when you add freezing water and 43 degree temperatures to them!
Finally – check out a guy who is afraid of heights jump into an air bag from 35 feet. And to whoever you are – I hope I didn’t take away from your excitement from my honest review after the first jump. 🙂
Don’t forget to check out some of my initial thoughts on the race soon after it was over and the video of how my morning started in this article from a few days ago.
What a blast – looking forward to next year’s installment plus other great obstacle races to come.
Finally feel free to come over to my growing YouTube channel and subscribe. You never know just what kind of crazy stunt I might pull next. I’ll give you a hint – it has to do with a raft and a river.
